To celebrate American Pharmacists Month, we will be highlighting a few pharmacists from our network who exemplify what it means to serve in the field.
To kick off the month, we started with our very own Digital Pharmacist, Anyssa Garza, Pharm.D.
“On any day, I will tell you I love being a pharmacist. But it is after certain moments, that I remember why I pursued a career in pharmacy in the first place. One recent experience at the Hope Clinic, where I volunteer, stands out in particular. Hope Clinic provides free healthcare to underserved populations in Austin. An elderly man from Nepal came in for management of his high blood pressure and COPD. Upon a brief physical examination, the physician noticed a big mass in his abdomen. We were able to facilitate an ultrasound and lab work for him that same week. The ultrasound determined the large mass to be a 9 cm x 10 cm life-threatening aortic aneurysm that needed to be surgically repaired immediately. Within a few days, we were able to get him an appointment with a vascular surgeon and 24 hours later he was in surgery.”
His daughter was so grateful that she wrote a letter to the health care team:
Hope Clinic, along with the donors, have been a God sent for us. After this experience, it makes me wonder if each human could help another human without expecting anything in return – the way Hope Clinic works, how wonderful this world might be.
It’s these moments that we love to hear about and want to celebrate this month. Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate pharmacists and all that we do.
Happy American Pharmacists Month from all of us at Digital Pharmacist! We are so appreciative of all of your dedication to your community.
